KWEK KWEK
Saturday, February 09, 2019One thing that my cousins and I would make every time I would go back to the Philippines is to make Kwek Kwek. Now, what is Kwek Kwek? These orange balls are like tempuras where they use boiled quail eggs instead of shrimp. Pretty interesting, right? The flavour is very distinct to me especially when you add the spicy vinegar dip to it. This Filipino food is considered as a "street food" in the Philippines where it is sold along with fish balls, kikiam etc. These orange balls are very easy to make. Here we go!
You would need:
- Quail Eggs, of course (for this batch of cooking, I made 50 kwek kweks to share)
- Flour
- Cornstarch
- Water
- Anatto Powder
- Salt
- Ground Pepper
- Cooking Oil
- Spicy Vinegar
- Onions
- Garlic
Here's How You'll Cook It:
1. Place the cornstarch in a container and put in the boiled eggs.
2. Combine the flour, salt, and pepper and mix them thoroughly in a mixing bowl.
3. Mix some anatto powder in warm water, then mix it will the other ingredients to make the batter.
4. Coat the boiled quail eggs in the batter carefully.
5. Heat up the pan and slowly pour the cooking oil.
6. When the oil is ready, deep fry the quail eggs by scooping them out using an ice cream scoop or a spoon.
7. Make sure that the quail eggs are fully coated with the batter.
8. When the quail eggs are ready, place it in a plate with paper towel.
9. Plate it with skewers and serve it with vinegar with minced garlic and onions.
10. Share and Enjoy!
